Located in the Bywater neighborhood, the Alvar Library was built by the WPA in 1940 and is a fine example of the Art Deco architectural style of that period. Weekly, we offer computer tutoring, storytime, and crafts. Collection highlights include locally-made comics and zines.

Alvar Library

Jeri Hilt is a filmmaker, mixed-media artist, and founder of Atchafalaya Fox Productions. Her work reflects cosmologies, aesthetics, and canons of thought from communities of color. Much of her film work is regionally specific to southern Louisiana and the state’s coastal Wetlands. She has been using film and photography to tell the stories of Black Women and communities in the South. (More)
