Spooktacular Events for All Ages

Description

With parties, movies, crafts, and much more, there is something for everyone to get into the spooky spirit this October.

Can't make it to the Library this month? Make spooky crafts at home with your Library card and CreativeBug. With more than 1,000 award-winning art & craft video classes taught by recognized design experts and artists, you can make your own holiday crafts anywhere and at your own pace.


Children

Norman Mayer Library on Wednesday, October 30 from 6pm - 7pm
Caramel Apple Party - Create your own caramel apple. We will provide the apples and fun toppings. Children age 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Nora Navra Library on Wednesday, October 30 from 6pm - 7pm
Halloween Storytime & Party - Stories, games, crafts, and snacks will highlight this boo-tacular evening. While supplies last. Children are also invited to wear their Halloween costumes. Prizes for best costumes will be given out.

Mid-City Library on Thursday, October 31 from 4pm - 7pm
Trick or Treat at the Library - Stop by in your Halloween best. Try to spook our staff and get a treat bag. We will also have a spooky craft station set up in the children's area.

Children & Teens

Rosa F. Keller Library & Community Center on Wednesday, October 16 from 3:30pm - 5:30pm
After-School Escapades: Murder in the Library - We challenge you to a game of CLUE with Mr. Green, Miss Peacock, Professor Plum, Miss White, Colonel Mustard, and Miss Scarlet. We will also have candy. For ages 11 - 17.

After-School Escapades: Scary Scavenger Hunt - Search for the scariest stuff in the Library during this competitive, fast-paced hunt. We will also have candy. For ages 11 - 17.

After-School Escapades: Haunted Crafts - Make a variety of ghoulish creations to take home. We will also have candy. For ages 11 - 17.

Teens

Algiers Regional Library on Tuesday, October 8 from 4pm - 6pm
Candy Haunted House - Bring your spookiest ideas to build a haunted house out of candy. All materials will be provided.

Rosa F. Keller Library & Community Center on Tuesday, October 8 from 5pm - 6pm
Teen Tuesday: Zombie Snot - It's a slime thang. Make a can of zombie snot to take home. We will also have candy. For ages 13 - 17.

Nora Navra Library on Saturday, October 12 from 1pm - 2:30pm
Club Teen D.I.Y. Presents: Mask Making - In October, we will cut, fold, and glue our way to a wearable modular mask.

Algiers Regional Library on Tuesday, October 22 from 4pm - 6pm
Paper Circuit Jack-O'-Lanterns - Use LEDs and circuits to illuminate paper jack-o'-lanterns. Sponsored by the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library.

Rosa F. Keller Library & Community Center on Tuesday, October 22 from 6pm - 7pm
Teen Tuesday: Horror Book Bingo - We will show you a scary book. If the cover is pictured on your bingo board, you're in luck. Standard bingo rules apply. We will also have candy. For ages 13 - 17.

Nora Navra Library on Thursday, October 24 from 4:30pm - 6pm
ToNN-O-Fun: Stranger Things Escape Box - Can you help Will break out of the Upside Down? Using logic puzzles, bust your way through locks and the mysteries of "Stranger Things.

Algiers Regional Library on Tuesday, October 29 from 4pm - 6pm
Teen Escape Room - Do you have what it takes to escape the Witches' Curse? Follow the clues to save the group from being turned into bats and cats. Sponsored by the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library.

Rosa F. Keller Library & Community Center on Tuesday, October 29 from 5pm - 6pm
Teen Tuesday: Very Very Short Horror Movies - Prepare to be scared. We have a collection of incredibly short scary movies. These movies are for teens only; they are too scary for younger children. We will have candy and popcorn. For ages 13 - 17.

ToNN-O-Fun Goes to the Movies: Frankenweenie - Watch Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, and show off your costumes.

Teens & Adults

Main Library on Tuesday, October 15 from 6:30pm - 8pm
Chilling Cinema: An Outdoor Screening of Nosferatu - Enjoy popcorn and the classic 1922 horror film on the porch. All ages welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. The first screen version of the classic horror tale, based on the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker, evokes a magnificent spirit of violence and impending doom as the vampire stalks his victims in the deepening shadows of night. Directed by F. W. Murnau; 67 minutes long. The program will be held inside if rain is expected.

Main Library Tuesday, October 8 from 6pm - 7:30pm
Kate Lacour in Conversation with Caesar Meadows - How is a chart like a comic strip? What’s so creepy and compelling about the human body? Why make a wordless encyclopedia? Kate Lacour will chat about her graphic novel Vivisectionary.

East New Orleans Regional Library on Thursday, October 10 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Adult Craft: DIY Halloween Lanterns - Bring a wide-mouth glass jar and transform it into a spooky Halloween lantern for your table, window, or porch.

Robert E. Smith Library on Thursday, October 24 from 6pm - 7pm
Sit Down New Orleans Haunted Tour - Sit down, get comfortable, and listen to New Orleans native Kristin Dugas tell stories of New Orleans' most haunted locations.

All Ages

Nora Navra Library on Saturday, October 19 from 3pm - 4pm
Craft Hour: Harvest Fun - Decorate pumpkins to get into the spirit of the season. Pumpkins and decorating supplies provided.

Rosa F. Keller Library & Community Center on Friday, October 25 from 6pm - 9pm
NORD Movies in the Park: Hocus Pocus - NORD Movies in the Park are fun, safe evenings that bring the community together. The movie will begin at dusk. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring picnics, lawn chairs, and blankets. Concessions are available at select events. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. No pets, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, firearms, weapons, smoking or outdoor cooking are allowed during the event. In case of inclement weather, the alternate indoor location is Rosenwald Rec Center (1120 S. Broad Street).

Family Halloween Party - Treats, crafts, and games for ages 0 - 10 and their parents or caregivers. Costumes encouraged.
